Sedation Dentistry Vs. Sleep Dentistry

Sleep dentistry and sedation dentistry are the names for the different types of anesthesia used during your sedation dentistry procedure. Here at Nu Smile, Dr. Kwan and Dr. Hsu perform sedation dentistry with oral sedation and nitrous oxide gas, rather than sleep dentistry with IV sedation or general anesthesia.

The reason Dr. Kwan and Dr. Hsu choose oral conscious sedation dentistry, rather than sleep dentistry is they believe it is safer, yet just as effective. Dr. Kwan and Dr. Hsu can bring a patient out of oral or nitrous oxide sedation very quickly.

With IV sedation and general anesthesia, there are more complications that can occur. Also, a second doctor must be present to monitor your heart rate, blood pressure, and other vital signs to make sure you are not in any medical danger.

Lastly, sleep dentistry IV sedation or general anesthesia can and up becoming much more costly that oral sedation or nitrous oxide. Dr. Kwan and Dr. Hsu want your sedation dentistry appointment to be affordable and successful.
