Porcelain Veneers

Porcelain Veneers Patient from Sacramento

What are porcelain veneers?

Porcelain veneers are very thin shells of porcelain that cover the front part of your teeth. They are custom made at a dental laboratory. Porcelain veneers can be used for many different types of dental problems such as chipped, misshapen, crooked, or worn teeth, and even spaces between teeth.

Is it painful to apply porcelain veneers?

A local anesthetic is used to keep you comfortable if there is any mild discomfort or sensitivity. Our doctors will first remove a thin layer of enamel and then take an impression of your teeth. The veneers are then bonded to the surface of your teeth during a second visit.

Do I need to be careful with my veneers?

After you have your veneers in place, it is important to be careful the first few days, while you get used to the new feeling in your mouth. After you have gotten used to having your new porcelain veneers, they can be treated just like your natural teeth.

How do I care for my porcelain veneers?

You would care for them the same way you care for your natural teeth. It is important to brush and floss well, to prevent the buildup of bacteria.

Is anyone a candidate for porcelain veneers?

No, not everyone is a candidate. Teeth that are too crowded can be difficult to optimally correct, and our cosmetic dentist may discuss other alternatives for you.

I have heard the term “instant orthodontics” what does that mean?

This term refers to the porcelain veneer procedure, which lets you correct your smile “instantly”, instead of waiting years to align your teeth with other more conventional methods.

Is it true that my teeth will be ground down to tiny stubs?

We believe in being conservative in the amount of enamel we remove to affix your porcelain veneers. The amount of your natural tooth removed in the process will depend on the problem that we are correcting with the porcelain veneers. Remember, this is a permanent solution, which is why it's important to have your porcelain veneers applied by a LVI-trained cosmetic dentist.

I've heard of DaVinci Veneers. What are those? Why don't you use those?

Da Vinci is just another lab that makes veneers.

We prefer to work with the MAC product from Microdental since the quality is second to none.   It makes the difference between a good case and an excellent
case and the work lasting longer with color and fracture issues when working with a quality lab that is at the forefront of ceramic research.  We work
with a very specially trained lab like MAC that pay exquisite detail to everything from the initial smile design to the finishing touches before the final work is delivered to our Guests.

I've heard of a product called Lumineers. How is that different from your porcelain veneers?

Lumineers are porcelain veneers that are placed directly on top of your teeth. In our opinion, Lumineers are not as strong, and are less natural looking, tending to appear bulkier and more opaque than natural teeth. They are also harder to keep clean. We use MAC Veneers because we believe they provide a stronger, more natural result.
